EXPERIENCE THE UNMATCHED LEGACY OF EDEN ROCK – ST BARTHS

Step into the world of unparalleled hospitality and timeless elegance as Eden Rock - St Barths prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary season in October 2023.

Since the 1950s, when Rémy de Haenen, the French Caribbean aviator and adventurer, first opened his Eden Rock residence to guests, this exclusive property has epitomized unparalleled hospitality. It quickly became the preferred destination for private and discreet getaways, attracting glamorous Hollywood personalities. Today, Eden Rock – St Barths continues to welcome brilliant celebrities and modern-day friends, carrying on its legacy. As it prepares to reopen in October 2023 for its 70th anniversary season, the iconic Caribbean retreat invites both new and returning guests to partake in the extraordinary experience offered by Eden Rock.

To commemorate this significant milestone, Eden Rock has joined forces with luxury publisher Assouline to create a bespoke coffee table book chronicling the property's illustrious seven decades of hosting celebrities, delivering exceptional hospitality, and cultivating cherished memories. The book, launching in October 2023, will consist of 160 pages, featuring over 140 illustrations, including exclusive imagery. Narrated by Vassi Chamberlain, an award-winning British journalist and St Barths connoisseur, this captivating volume provides the most comprehensive account of Eden Rock – St Barths' iconic history. It will be available for purchase at the Eden Rock boutique and select Assouline retail stores.

Rémy de Haenen, an esteemed and eccentric adventurer, was the founding force behind Eden Rock. Born in London, he made history by landing the first plane ever on St Barths in 1946, touching down in a field teeming with livestock that would later transform into the efficient "Rémy de Haenen" airport. Enchanted by the island's magnetic allure and the presence of notable visitors like David and Peggy Rockefeller and members of the Rothschild family, Rémy purchased land that included a rocky promontory extending into St Jean Bay. In 1953, he converted his home into the first bed and breakfast on the island, welcoming his friends and family. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, his glamorous guests included icons like Greta Garbo, Howard Hughes, Gore Vidal, and Robert Mitchum. Many of these luminaries and their acquaintances also purchased local properties, igniting the vibrant real estate market that thrives to this day.

After Rémy de Haenen retired from Eden Rock, David and Jane Matthews fell in love with the property when they viewed it from a sailboat in St Jean Bay, despite their lack of hospitality experience. The Matthews family made a conscious decision to preserve most of the original objects and heirlooms, including artwork by Mr. de Haenen's father, while infusing the space with modernity and their personal touches. In 2014, they welcomed the Oetker Collection and the Oetker family as co-investors and partners, marking a new era for the hotel. Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017, Eden Rock – St Barths underwent a complete renovation. In 2019, it reopened its doors after a multimillion-dollar transformation, revealing new and redesigned suites and rooms, a state-of-the-art gym, an exquisite spa, and inviting pools. Today, Eden Rock – St Barths remains committed to nurturing freedom and fun, constantly seeking new ideas and investing in delivering the best experiences. Whether it's the culinary creations of Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the introduction of new works by emerging and established artists, exclusive collaborations, or the expansion of Eden Spa and Eden Rock Boutique, this hotel continuously evolves to cater to its loyal guests and friends.
