MOZAMBIQUE’S 50TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION HELD IN JAKARTA, MARKING STRENGTHENED INDONESIA TIES
A meaningful celebration of unity and progress, where two nations move toward a stronger and more connected future
The Indonesian government reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties with Mozambique during the celebration of Mozambique’s 50th Independence Anniversary, held in Jakarta on Friday, July 11, 2025. Representing Indonesia, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Head of the National Land Agency, Nusron Wahid, attended the event and delivered a message of friendship and commitment to future cooperation.
In his remarks, Minister Nusron described the golden jubilee as a meaningful opportunity to open new pathways for collaboration between the two nations across a range of sectors.
“Indonesia is committed to deepening cooperation with Mozambique. Let us explore new opportunities, face global challenges together, and build a future that is prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable,” he said.
Indonesia and Mozambique have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 33 years. This partnership has grown steadily, especially following the official visit of the President of Indonesia to Mozambique in August 2023. That visit marked a new chapter in bilateral relations, with both countries focusing on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, and infrastructure.
A major milestone in this growing relationship is the signing of the Preferential Trade Agreement, which came into effect in 2022. Mozambique is the first African nation to enter into such an agreement with Indonesia. This breakthrough has opened up significant opportunities to increase trade volumes and boost economic development for both countries.
During the same occasion, the Ambassador of Mozambique to Indonesia, Belmiro Malate, emphasized that Mozambique’s independence was made possible through the support of friendly nations and progressive organizations that stood for peace, freedom, and development.
“Our gratitude today is not only for the past we have shared but also for the journey that continues,” he said.
Mozambique’s 50th Independence Day celebration was more than a ceremonial event. It served as a powerful reminder that global partnerships, like the one between Indonesia and Mozambique, can continue to flourish through mutual respect and a shared vision for a brighter and more inclusive future.
