Karang Asam Festival will return in 2025 with the theme “Labyrinth of Culture” (LOC), a concept that reflects the richness and depth of South Sumatra’s cultural heritage, particularly in Muara Enim Regency. Initiated by the local community, this festival has been successfully held three times since 2022 and continues to serve as a platform for strengthening social bonds and fostering the spirit of togetherness.

The LOC theme invites visitors to explore the diverse elements of Muara Enim’s culture, from traditions and language to art that shapes everyday life. The labyrinth represents the long cultural journey, where different traditions interact and intertwine, creating harmony in diversity.

Karang Asam Festival 2025 is designed not only as entertainment but also as an educational event that drives local economic growth. It is envisioned as a pilot project for developing high-quality cultural festivals in South Sumatra, celebrating heritage while creating positive impacts for local communities.

A notable achievement for the festival is its inclusion in the prestigious Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) list. As the only community-based festival in South Sumatra Province, Karang Asam Festival proudly highlights traditional values and local wisdom as its core identity.

For 2025, the festival will bring an even broader concept by involving 100 villages from 17 cities and regencies across South Sumatra. This collaboration is expected to enrich cultural experiences for visitors. One of the major highlights is the Alunan International Music Culture Festival, the first cultural music festival of its kind in South Sumatra, featuring traditional musicians from both Indonesia and abroad.

The event will take place from September 3 to 7, 2025, in Muara Enim, presenting a series of performances and cultural activities that allow visitors to experience the region’s rich traditions up close. Through its diverse programs, Karang Asam Festival 2025 aims to be more than just a celebration of culture. It seeks to strengthen local identity, build meaningful connections, and position South Sumatra as a premier destination for cultural tourism in Indonesia.
