GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM OFFICIALLY OPENS AS A NEW CULTURAL LANDMARK NEAR THE PYRAMIDS OF GIZA

A breathtaking masterpiece where ancient legacy meets modern brilliance, inviting the world to rediscover the timeless spirit of Egypt

Egypt has once again captured the world’s attention with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on November 1, 2025. Located just a short distance from the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza, this magnificent museum stands as a new symbol of Egypt’s tourism revival and a testament to the preservation of an ancient civilization that has fascinated humanity for millennia.

Costing approximately 1.2 billion US dollars (around 19 trillion rupiah), the GEM is recognized as the world’s largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization. Built on an area of 500,000 square meters, equivalent to about 70 football fields, the museum combines modern architectural brilliance with the timeless legacy of ancient Egypt. It is designed to welcome up to five million visitors each year, positioning it as one of Egypt’s foremost cultural destinations.

Inside, more than 100,000 artifacts are carefully curated to illustrate Egypt’s journey from prehistoric times to the Roman era. Upon entering the grand hall, visitors are greeted by the majestic statue of King Ramses II, followed by expansive exhibition spaces that tell the story of Egypt’s long and vibrant history through modern technology.

The museum houses twelve galleries arranged chronologically and thematically. Galleries 1 to 3 explore the prehistoric era up to the Old Kingdom, including the age of pyramid construction. Galleries 4 to 6 focus on the Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate Period, showcasing the development of art and governance. Galleries 7 to 9 highlight the New Kingdom, the most celebrated period in Egyptian history, featuring the treasures of King Tutankhamun. The final galleries, 10 to 12, present the post-New Kingdom period through to the Graeco-Roman era.

Beyond preserving ancient relics, the GEM serves as a global cultural hub that connects Egypt’s ancient heritage with modern innovation. Its interior features advanced 3D display systems, an international-standard conference hall, and the largest restoration center in the Middle East. The museum also offers commercial and entertainment spaces, a children’s museum, an educational center, and elegant souvenir shops inspired by the grandeur of the Pharaohs.

The museum’s establishment is the result of collaboration between the Egyptian government, UNESCO, and the International Union of Architects. The cornerstone was laid in 2002, replacing the old Egyptian Museum that had operated since 1902.

With its extraordinary collection and stunning architecture, the Grand Egyptian Museum stands not only as a monument to Egypt’s glorious past but also as a bridge between history and the future. For travelers, visiting this museum offers a rare opportunity to experience firsthand the splendor of an ancient civilization that continues to thrive in the heart of Giza.
