DRIVING ELECTRIC RAIL INNOVATION, POLAND AND INDONESIA STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
Indonesia steps confidently into the future of electric mobility through global partnerships that spark innovation and sustainability
At an official forum hosted by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency on June 13, 2025, Indonesia once again reaffirmed its ambition to lead Southeast Asia’s transition to electric transportation. One of the key highlights of the event was the announcement of a strategic partnership between PT INKA, Indonesia’s national rail manufacturer, and Medcom, a technology company from Poland.
While Medcom does not manufacture vehicles, the company plays a crucial role in advancing electric transportation, particularly in the railway sector. Medcom is widely recognized as a supplier of electric converters and propulsion systems used across many European countries.
During the forum, Piotr Wronski, Vice President of Medcom, shared that one of PT INKA’s train models has already been equipped with Medcom’s converter system. He expressed optimism about the potential for further collaboration.
“Based on the initial results, we see significant potential to expand this partnership,” Wronski stated during the event.
What makes Medcom stand out from many other foreign technology providers is its open approach to technology transfer. Unlike companies that impose long-term dependencies, Medcom ensures that the technology belongs entirely to the local partner once installed.
“We are ready to fully transfer the technology. Once it is in place, it becomes yours, with no extra costs or future obligations,” Wronski emphasized.
This collaboration reflects a growing trend in international partnerships that promote shared progress rather than one-sided control. With support from partners like Medcom, Indonesia can build a self-reliant, efficient, and competitive electric transport system.
As Indonesia’s cities continue to grow rapidly, the need for sustainable and reliable public transport is more urgent than ever. Collaborations like this are not only business opportunities but also essential steps toward achieving a greener and more efficient transportation network.
The event also served as a valuable platform for industry leaders, students, and young innovators to gain insights into the latest advancements in electric transport and explore future opportunities for collaboration.
If Indonesia remains committed to working with partners that prioritize mutual growth, the country is well-positioned to become a key leader in electric transportation across Southeast Asia in the coming years.
