CITY OF LOVE: A CINEMATIC MUSICAL CELEBRATING LOVE AND LIFE'S JOURNEY

Will take the audience on a deep exploration of a meaningful story of love, reconciliation, and family

The exciting collaboration between Hanung Bramantyo and Agus Noor brings us City of Love, a cinematic musical set to premiere for Valentine’s Day 2025. Acclaimed director Hanung Bramantyo returns to the theater scene, introducing a fresh genre—cinematic musical—which seamlessly blends elements of theater and cinema in a captivating stage performance.

City of Love will be performed at JICC Senayan, Jakarta, from February 14 to 16, 2025. The musical tells the story of Sandya and Kala, two young lovers who must overcome obstacles stemming from their parents’ unresolved past. Sandya’s father, Badai, and Kala’s mother, Kasih, share a history of love gone awry, leaving them with emotional wounds that affect their views on their children’s relationship. Through the guidance of Ibu Juli, who teaches the true meaning of love, the story explores deeper themes of love, family, and personal growth.

This musical is not just about a young couple’s love story but also about how the past influences the present. It shows that love is more than just a destination—it is a journey that must be celebrated. The audience will be encouraged to reflect on the true meaning of love, forgiveness, and the complexities of family relationships.

For this project, Hanung Bramantyo has teamed up with an impressive team of collaborators, including scriptwriter Agus Noor, music director Tohpati, and stage designers Titien Wattimena and Taba Sanchabachtiar. Their collective efforts promise a performance that is both entertaining and inspiring.

The cast of City of Love features talented young actors like Devano (as Sandya) and Maisha Kanna (as Kala), along with seasoned performers such as Marcell Siahaan (as Badai), Widyawati, Niniek L. Karim, Andien, Lukman Sardi, and Aming. Yanti Airlangga, Chairperson of the Indonesian Cultural Heritage (WBI) Foundation, also takes on the role of Kasih, adding another layer of depth to the production.

As a project supported by the Indonesian Cultural Heritage Foundation, City of Love also highlights a commitment to preserving Indonesian cultural heritage. This performance serves not only as entertainment but as a celebration of the country’s rich cultural values.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved ones at this meaningful cinematic musical. Save the date and prepare to experience the magic of love that unfolds on stage.
