Step into a world of visionary photography where imagination and innovation collide in stunning visual stories

Bandung has once again become a hub for contemporary art with the opening of the Bandung Photography Triennale 2025 on September 12, 2025. This internationally scaled exhibition features photographic works from artists across the globe, enriching Indonesia’s visual arts landscape. In its second edition, BPT presents the theme “Synthetic Vision: The Age of Fictionalizing in Our Culture,” reflecting current global geopolitical conditions while building on the thematic explorations of its previous edition.

One of the exhibition venues, Selasar Sunaryo Art Space (SSAS), presents the sub-theme Aeviternity. This concept highlights how art emerges from fleeting moments yet seeks to achieve a sense of eternity through the viewer’s gaze. Each glance brings new meaning, keeping the image alive. Participating artists employ a variety of media to redefine photography and offer fresh interpretations of the medium. The exhibition at SSAS runs until October 12, 2025, giving art enthusiasts the chance to experience thought-provoking and innovative works.

The Bandung Photography Triennale is a triennial event that began in 2022, evolving from the Bandung Photo Showcase, which started in 2015. In its early years, the festival included exhibitions, discussions, workshops, and collaborative projects. After a careful review, the format was revised in 2019 to a triennial schedule under the new name, Bandung Photography Triennale, aiming to create a more focused, sustainable, and collaborative program involving academics, artists, curators, and critics. The inaugural BPT in 2022 explored the theme “Future is Now: Skepticism, New Reality, and Infinities,” and the second edition in 2025 continues this thematic journey.

Besides SSAS, BPT 2025 features five other galleries with ongoing exhibitions and sub-themes: Orbital Dago (September 10 – October 12), Grey Art Gallery (September 18 – October 19), Wangirupa (September 20 – October 20), and Tjap Sahabat (October 15 – October 30). These venues provide visitors with a rich opportunity to explore diverse interpretations of contemporary photography.

Curated by artists bringing creative and innovative approaches, the exhibition offers a unique chance to engage with international contemporary photography while exploring the links between art, social issues, and current geopolitical contexts.
