From September 30 to October 8, 2023, film enthusiasts in Indonesia can indulge in 65 films from 22 countries showcased at the 100% Human Film Festival. This festival will take place in three major cities of Indonesia: Jakarta, Bekasi, and Yogyakarta. With the theme "Shake and Roll," the festival aims not only to entertain but also to encourage the audience to support Human Rights through the medium of film.
The festival provides an opportunity for film enthusiasts to enjoy various genres and narratives presented by filmmakers from around the world. One of the main highlights of this event is their latest program, 100% STMJ (Shorts Term Memory of Joy), featuring short films created by young Indonesian filmmakers.
During his opening speech at the Goethe-Institut, Kurnia Dwijayanto, Director of the 100% Human Film Festival, expressed his pride in the participation of young Indonesian filmmakers. "The 100% STMJ program serves as a platform for young filmmakers to voice their thoughts. It demonstrates the high awareness of the younger generation regarding Human Rights issues," he said.
The festival opened with the screening of "20,000 Species of Bees" by Spanish director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren. This film, which received the Silver Bear award at Berlinale 2023, tells the story of a child's journey in exploring their identity. Diego Santiago Rivero, Deputy Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia, stated that the film portrays the struggle of accepting differences and the search for identity, inspiring many people.
In addition to film screenings, the festival offers various exciting events, including the photography exhibition "Colors of Freedom" by young Jakarta artist Richardo Fransiscoli at Goethe-Institut. Visitors can also participate in non-screening events such as "100% Outloud" at the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta, "A Walk to Understand" at Pasar Baru, and "100% In Harmony" at Goethe-Institut Indonesien.
This festival not only provides quality entertainment but also serves as an important educational platform to raise awareness about humanitarian issues and Human Rights. Vivian Idris, Head of the Festival and Activity Organizing Department at the Indonesian Film Board, emphasized the importance of continuous support for the organization of the 100% Human Film Festival.
Offline screenings of the 100% Human Film Festival are available at various locations, including IFI Thamrin, Goethe-Institut Indonesien, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta. Additionally, the 100% LAYTAN (Open-Air Screen) program is also present at Summarecon Mall Bekasi, offering a unique viewing experience for the public.
