An epic celebration of sports and culture uniting the world in the heart of the City of Light

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and commonly referred to as the Paris 2024 Olympics, is a prestigious international sports event taking place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024. This marks the third time Paris has hosted the Olympics, having previously done so in 1900 and 1924, making Paris the second city, after London, to host the Olympics three times.

One of the most extraordinary moments of any Olympics is the Opening Ceremony, and Paris 2024 did not disappoint. This ceremony promises to be one of the most memorable in Olympic history. For the first time, the ceremony was not held in a stadium but in the heart of Paris, along the iconic Seine River.

On July 26, 2024, Paris 2024 delivered a bold, original, and unique opening ceremony. Held on the Seine River, the athletes' parade was conducted using boats for each national delegation. A total of 205 contingents from various participating countries took part in this parade, using 85 boats equipped with cameras to allow television and online viewers to see the athletes up close. With a six-kilometer route from east to west, 10,500 athletes crossed the center of Paris, showcasing their prowess before competing over the next 16 days. The parade ended in front of the Trocadéro, where the remaining elements of the Olympic protocol and final performances took place.

Indonesia proudly took part in this historic moment. In the parade order according to the French alphabet, Indonesia appeared in the 85th position, sharing a boat with India and Iran. The Indonesian contingent attracted attention by wearing traditional Javanese attire designed by Didit Hediprasetyo, while enthusiastically waving the red and white flag.

The opening ceremony began at 7:30 PM local time or 12:30 AM WIB, with French football icon Zinedine Zidane taking the torch from an actor who accidentally walked into the Olympic Stadium. Zidane then handed the Olympic torch to three children, who carried it through a dramatic scene, being confronted by a crocodile, before finally appearing on a boat on the Seine River.

Despite Paris being drenched by rain at that time, the spirits of the participants, including the Indonesian team, were undeterred. Anindya Bakri, Indonesia's Chef de Mission (CdM), joined the athletes on the boat, showcasing the pride and indomitable spirit that characterizes Indonesia.

Lady Gaga and Celine Dion performed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony, which was truly grand. These singers from different generations captivated the world with their stunning performances and contrasting Dior outfits.

Although from different generations, both successfully made the Paris 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony a global highlight with their remarkable performances. Lady Gaga and Celine Dion performed on separate stages located at famous Paris landmarks.

Celine Dion looked stunning in a white silk gown from Dior Haute Couture designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. The georgette gown with a turtleneck featured thousands of silver bead details that sparkled beautifully.

Additionally, the ceremony was open to a large audience, with 80 giant screens and strategically placed speakers allowing everyone to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the show, resonating throughout the French capital. The Paris 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony became the largest in Olympic history, open to everyone: residents of Paris and its surroundings, as well as visitors from all over France and the world.
