PATRICIA PICCININI: CARE - SOLO EXHIBITION AT MUSEUM MACAN OPENS
Features over 40 hyperrealistic sculptures and imaginative installations
Museum MACAN is delighted to present its eagerly awaited annual solo exhibition. This year, the museum, renowned for its international contemporary art collection, collaborates with Australian hyperrealist sculptor Patricia Piccinini. The exhibition titled "Care" runs from May 23 to October 6, 2024, and features a range of thought-provoking and emotionally engaging works.
Universal Warmth Through "Care"
"Patricia Piccinini: CARE" marks Patricia Piccinini's first solo exhibition in Indonesia, curated by Tobias Berger. The exhibition showcases over 40 life-sized sculptures, three large video installations, and "Celestial Field" (2021), a spectacular installation of thousands of flowers. Patricia’s work blends hyperrealistic and imaginative elements, creating a world full of warmth and intimacy.
The theme "Care" was chosen for its universal meaning and relevance to everyday life. Patricia and Tobias believe that care is a feeling that resonates with people everywhere, including audiences in Indonesia. The exhibition also addresses current global issues concerning ecology, biodiversity, and biotechnology, encouraging visitors to reflect on and understand the importance of environmental stewardship.
The Charm of Imaginary Life
A key attraction of this exhibition is the hyperrealistic sculptures depicting forms of imaginary life. Patricia invites visitors to explore the intersection of living creatures and mythological figures, creating a world that is both strange and familiar. These works are not only visually stunning but also rich in meaning, prompting visitors to feel and reflect deeply.
One notable piece is "The Couple," set in a traditional Indonesian home complete with characteristic trinkets like kerupuk cans. Through this work, Patricia expresses her admiration for Indonesia's cultural richness, which she has studied since school. This piece illustrates how she blends local cultural elements with her unique vision.
Emotionally Engaging Works
Patricia offers tips for visitors to enjoy her works: don't just see them with your eyes, but also with your heart. Each detail of her works holds deep beauty and meaning. Visitors are invited to delve into the emotions and stories within each sculpture and installation, uncovering the hidden messages conveyed through the art.
The exhibition not only features mesmerizing art installations but also offers a series of engaging programs designed to enrich the visitor experience. One highlight is a storytelling session with Patricia, held on Saturday, May 25, 2024. In this session, visitors heard firsthand about the stories and inspirations behind Patricia's works, gaining deeper insights into her creative process.
Additionally, a children's room specially designed by Patricia fosters creativity through play and intriguing costumes. This room is crafted to engage children with art in a fun and educational manner, helping them learn to appreciate art from an early age.
Through her hyperrealistic and imaginative works, Patricia Piccinini conveys important messages about caring for the environment and each other. This exhibition invites us all to reflect on our relationship with the environment and other living beings, inspiring us to be more caring and responsible. Don’t miss the chance to visit this exhibition and experience the wonder of her imaginary world.
