HUNGARIAN NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION 2024: A CELEBRATION OF HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL BONDS
A historic moment that strengthens bonds and celebrates the long journey to freedom
On November 7, 2024, the Ayana Mid Plaza Hotel in Jakarta hosted a significant event to commemorate the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and the War of Independence. The reception, organized by Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Ms. Lilla Karsay, and Mr. David Medina, welcomed guests including state officials, ambassadors, and distinguished community leaders.
The event kicked off at 7:00 PM with an opening speech by Ambassador Karsay, who highlighted the importance of this commemoration for the Hungarian people. Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Todotua Pasaribu, also addressed the gathering, representing the Indonesian government. The presence of Sultan B. Najamudin, Chairman of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), further strengthened the diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Hungary, underscoring the two countries’ shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
The commemoration of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 recalls the pivotal events of October 23, 1956, when the Hungarian people rose up against the communist regime. This revolution was a defining moment in Hungary's history, eventually leading to its peaceful transition to democracy in 1989.
This historic struggle for freedom and independence continues to be honored today. The event allowed Ambassador Karsay and the guests to reflect on the heroism of the Hungarian people, while also celebrating the country's remarkable political achievements.
With a solemn yet warm atmosphere, the reception symbolized the growing relationship between Indonesia and Hungary, emphasizing their shared values of democracy and freedom, and their ongoing commitment to fostering deeper international cooperation.
