FRENCH-SPEAKING AMBASSADORS HELD AN INSPIRING DIALOGUE WITH INDONESIAN STUDENTS

It unlocked global opportunities through language, diplomacy, and cultural exchange

As part of Francophonie Week in Indonesia, which took place from March 17 to 22, 2025, Indonesian students had a valuable opportunity to engage in direct discussions with ambassadors from French-speaking countries. The event, held at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) on March 20, 2025, served as an inspiring platform for university and high school students to gain deeper insights into diplomacy and international cooperation.

Second Consecutive Year at UNJ

For the second year in a row, UNJ hosted this event to commemorate International French Language Day. More than 180 students with an interest in the French language and international relations participated in the discussion. The presence of seven diplomats from various countries provided valuable perspectives on the role of the French language in diplomacy and global cooperation.

Exclusive Dialogue with Diplomats

The event featured ambassadors from Belgium, Egypt, France, Switzerland, and Uruguay, along with representatives from the embassies of Greece and Mexico. They shared their experiences and answered students' questions about diplomacy, cultural diversity, and the opportunities available through mastering the French language at the international level.

The participants came from various educational institutions, including the French Language Department at UNJ and Universitas Indonesia (UI), the bilingual France Track program at Labschool Cibubur, and several high schools in Jakarta, such as SMAN 91, SMAN 68, SMAN 27, SMA Pelita Tiga, and SMA Fransiskus 1.

A Platform for Inspiration and Idea Exchange

More than just a conference, the event created a space for intergenerational dialogue. Students not only gained insights into diplomacy but also explored various educational and mobility opportunities made possible by proficiency in the French language. This initiative strengthened Indonesia’s ties with the Francophonie community and encouraged more young people to consider international opportunities through the French language and culture.

With this year’s successful execution, the dialogue between diplomats and Indonesian students is expected to continue as an annual event, providing valuable experiences for young people interested in international relations and the French language.
