Makassar will once again be in the spotlight in 2025 with Festival F8, one of the largest annual events eagerly awaited by both locals and tourists. As the metropolitan hub of South Sulawesi, Makassar presents this festival not only as a source of entertainment but also as a platform to promote culture, creativity, and the city’s growing tourism potential.

Since its beginning, Festival F8 has been designed to showcase local talent, support the growth of the creative economy, and strengthen Makassar’s image as a culturally dynamic and innovative city. The name F8 represents eight key elements of creativity that form the heart of the festival: Food, Fashion, Fusion Music, Film, Fine Art, Fiction Writers, Folks, and Flora Fauna.

Festival F8 2025 brings fresh innovations and surprises that further establish its reputation as one of Indonesia’s premier cultural events. Visitors will enjoy live music from local, national, and international performers, while traditional Bugis dances, contemporary choreography, and visual art exhibitions enrich the artistic experience on the main stage. Culinary enthusiasts can savor Makassar’s famous dishes such as coto Makassar, konro bakar, and pisang epe, alongside fusion creations and innovative offerings from local small businesses.

Creative workshops will be available for children, teenagers, and adults, covering areas such as visual arts, music, traditional dance, and handicrafts, combining learning with entertainment. Families will also find a dedicated zone for children with traditional games, coloring competitions, and puppet shows, creating a safe and enjoyable space for visitors of all ages. Adding to the vibrancy, local artisans will present handicrafts, fashion, and creative designs in special exhibitions, showcasing the unique culture of Makassar while supporting the visibility of the city’s creative economy on a global scale.

This year, Festival F8 moves to a new open-air venue behind Trans Studio Mall, offering a broader and more modern setting compared to its previous location along Losari Beach. Among the most anticipated innovations is Future Land, a segment inspired by the world-renowned Tomorrowland festival. Future Land is designed especially for Generation Z, blending digital and modern entertainment while staying rooted in local traditions. International collaboration will also play a role, with designers from Spain and the Philippines joining creative talents from South Sulawesi to elevate the festival’s global appeal.

More than just a celebration, F8 2025 also offers space for reflection. The opening segment will pay tribute to ten individuals who lost their lives in the struggle for democratic justice, adding depth and meaning to the event. Festival F8’s growing prestige is reflected in its continued recognition as one of the Top 10 Karisma Event Nusantara, affirming its importance to Indonesia’s tourism and creative economy.
